POLICY SUMMIT - Ending Violence Against Women:
Making it happen in LA!

Led by 3 international women service agencies and joined by 30
collaborating agencies that includes LAPD, LA Co DV Council, LA
Co District Attorney, LA Co Office of Women's Health, and various
government and non-profit agencies. The intention of the Summit is
to find flaws in the system - in policy or practice - and find ways to
fix them. SHIELD leads the group on Safety by Design: Sites and
Settings of Violence Against Women. Specific discussions by
experts on workplace violence, campus safety, neighborhood
safety, and the media's role on reporting violence against women.

Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base
While a crime suspect's rights are protected by the law, equal
protection is not always available for the victim. The law
enforcement and court processes are traumatic, and often, this is a
victim's first encounter with the court system. SHIELD is involved in
the planning committee for the event. Confirmed honored guests
include many senators, congressman, assemblymen, military
leaders, OC Sheriff, LA Co Sheriff, and various Police Chiefs from
various cities.

Lunch & Learn at the FOX Studios

SHIELD teaches women's self defense and personal safety to the
women of FOX at the FOX Studios in Century City. The event was
sold out to over 120 women from FOX within a couple of hours after
the announcement.

Kick Off fund raising party. Angela Rose, founder of PAVE will visit
Los Angeles and speak about thriving from being a victim to being
a survivor. SHIELD helped organized and promote the event.
Rosie Goes to WALL STREET Camp
Intensive Summer Camp for Girls
July and August, 2007
Glendale, CA
The Summer Camp was organized by the Commission on the
Status of Women (Glendale Municipality) to empower teenage girls
ranging from 14 to 18 years old, in the area of financial literacy,
dating safety and self defense. The Camp was sponsored by the
City of Glendale Commission on the Status of Women and the
Women's Foundation of California. There are two sessions in July
and August. SHIELD taught self defense for both sessions for 60
girls who are considered in high-risk environments.

A Promise to Protect!

SHIELD led 12 organization heads to work across organizational
boundaries for one common goal: women's safety and
empowerment. The meeting was well attended by leaders of
various organizations, including Chief Sharon Papa of the L.A.P.D.,
President of LA Co Commission for Women, Executive Director of
the LA Co Domestic Violence Council, Executive in Charge of
Production of America's Most Wanted TV Show, Executive
Director of PAVE: Promoting Awareness, Victim Empowerment,
and many other leaders. The meeting will solidify ONE initiative that
can be implemented immediately and produces significant
measurable results.

A Week Without Violence

Glendale, CA
A nationwide event for the YWCA, SHIELD opened the event with
a self defense class at the YWCA Glendale. Candlelit Vigil to follow
with an opening ceremony by the president of the YWCA Glendale
and the Chair of the Commission on the Status of Women in
Glendale.
BOARDFEST 2006

All-Girl Surf & Snow Contests and Empowerment Event. SHIELD
was invited to participate in teaching self defense to Boardfest
2006 participants.

Santa Monica, CA
Along with the Santa Monica Police, the Rangers, American Red
Cross, AAA and a couple of other groups, SHIELD participated in
the Safety Fair for the MTV Network.

The Vagina Monologues

SHIELD produced and sponsored the performance of The Vagina
Monologues in a 1300-seat theater. Beneficiary: YWCA Glendale
shelter for battered women.
