AT the request of LA Co Dept of Public Health, Office of Women's Health, SHIELD took center stage
demonstrating women's self-defense at the Health Fest. This is the first time women's self-defense
was brought in as a Public Health issue alongside H1N1 vaccination, mammogram testing, HIV
testing, and other health issues.

SHIELD taught a couple of workshops on women's self-defense & personal safety at the request of
LA Co Dept of Public Health for the Mexican Consulate General's Mother's Day Health Fair. The
workshop were translated in Spanish. SHIELD received a recognition award from the Consulate
General of Mexico. Again, we were next to a mammogram testing, HIV testing, and other health
issues specific for women.

SHIELD partnered with Santa Monica Police Activities League and UCLA/Santa Monica Rape

Glendale Commission on the Status of Women and Senator Carol Liu Office hired SHIELD to teach a
series of self-defense classes for the community, as a part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April.
This is the 3rd year SHIELD has been teaching for the City of Glendale.

Mothers/Daughters Conference. Over 100 women and girls attended the workshop.

SHIELD conducted 2 workshops on women's self defense and personal safety FOX female employees.
The event was sold out to over 120 women from FOX within a couple of hours after the
announcement. This was the third year SHIELD provided training for FOX Studios.
Rosie Camp - Intensive Summer Camp for Girls

This is the 3rd year in a row SHIELD was hired by the City of Glendale to conduct self-defense classes
for Rosie Camp. The Summer Camp was organized by the Commission on the Status of Women to
empower teenage girls ranging from 11 to 18 years old, in the area of financial literacy, dating safety
and self defense. The Camp was sponsored by the City of Glendale and the Women's Foundation of
California.
POLICY SUMMIT
Ending Violence Against Women: Making it happen in LA!

Led by 3 international women service agencies and joined by 30 collaborating agencies that includes
LAPD, LA Co DV Council, LA Co District Attorney, LA Co Office of Women's Health, and various
government and non-profit agencies. The intention of the Summit is to find flaws in the system - in
policy or practice - and find ways to fix them. SHIELD leads the group on Safety by Design: Sites and
Settings of Violence Against Women. Specific discussions by experts on workplace violence, campus
safety, neighborhood safety, and the media's role on reporting violence against women.
